Return of the Mac
An amazing thing happened a couple of days ago. Well, amazing in the sense that I’ve really done not that much since my two-week holiday began.
My iBook died a few months ago. Quite drastically. I was in the middle of writing an assignment, as I am lots recently, and my Mac froze. Fine. Quite rare, but not unknown. So I just powered it off and switched it back on again. Fine again. Except it wouldn’t boot up. Instead, it decided to cycle through different coloured screens. Black, red, blue, green, grey.. Grey?! Weird. So, a little panicked as my assignment was on the HD, unbackedup (new word), I phoned Beth and got her to search the Internet as to what to do. I ended up “zapping the PRAM” (that’s P. RAM, not “pram”), and it booted up fine, which allowed me to back up all my important documents to USB stick.
Long story short. Took it into uni, technician looked at it, turned it on, it worked. I took it home. It worked, then died.
Which brings us back to a couple of days ago, months after all that malarkee. I switched it on, just randomly. Just to see what happened. Maybe I was longing to see the multi-coloured screens of death again. But no, it booted up! Hurrah! So in my haste and foolishness, I joyfully reformatted my iPod with my iBook. Used the Mac all day, and shut it down that night. Maybe I shouldn’t have turned it off. I don’t know. Didn’t use it at all yesterday. Turned it on this morning. Death screens. Cack. It’s dead again, and I have to reformat my iPod with my PC. Nightmare. Why is this happening?! The iBook’s HD makes all the right noises – it’s the display that isn’t working. I have no idea what’s going on. The Internet is useless on this.
No, it’s not in warranty.
No, I’ve not got Apple-Care.
Yes, I am considering spending £1,500 on a brand new iMac. It won’t happen though. For a long time. I need a new 24mm lens before that happens. Not that that compares to the price at all. But one thing at a time, yes? And I need a new car.
Shiny 2.5
Oooh, shiny Wordpress 2.5! Surely everybody should be using Wordpress?
And now, work. Please. Come on. Work, Dave, work!
Hull for a day
It’s that time of year again when I drive to the picturesque(!) Hull to see my mother and step-dad. Only going for the day. Tonight Beth and I will probably go to see The Other Boleyn Girl.. Don’t think it’s had rave reviews, but should be interesting. Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson in the same film, anyone?
As time flies by

I’ve just come out the other end of a three-hour-long youth leaders’ planning meeting. I survived, just.
In other news, I have come to realise the amount of work that I need to get done this holiday. Fortunately, I have another week and a half to do it in, but I know that time is going to fly by. Today all I did was mark about ten papers. Which really, isn’t good enough.
I’m off to Hull tomorrow, and out for a film in the evening, so no work will be done until Thursday now. I’ve also volunteered myself to plan and take a youth meeting, seeing as this week is the only week that I have time to prepare one until I finish my PGCE. There are many hours in a day. I need to use them wisely, starting from Thursday. It should be okay. I just need to be disciplined.
