My life is getting ridiculous

In half an hour or so, probably, I’m off to Hull with Beth for a wedding tomorrow.. Which is pretty crazy seeing as I’ve got a ton of work to do. My big assignment is due a week on Tuesday. It’s mad. All mad. And I found out today that I’ve being observed by uni on Monday. A lesson which I haven’t planned yet, and am not quite sure when I’m going to plan it. Might have to be a Sunday night job. I’m not expecting it to go well at all.

So I need to iron a shirt for tomorrow.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: I’ll be so happy when this stupid course is over. Never, never, never do it. A GTP course maybe. But not this. Don’t do it.

Oh, and I get married 16 weeks tomorrow. And to say that the wedding is nearly planned would be a massive exaggeration.

A couple of things, starting with the obvious.

It will be of no surprise to any of you, any three of you, that I am tired. Parents evening was fun, and don’t you go thinking otherwise.

I am sat here, in front of my computer, trying to gain enough brain-energy to at least write a letter of application. But I have nothing. All I can do is stare and listen to Sufjan. That is about it. And type a rubbish blog post, of course.

The next two days at school will be comparatively easy, as it is Year 11 performances all day tomorrow, and lots of teachers are on strike on Thursday, so I will be able to get lots of work done then.

Less than four months and I’ll be a married man. How BIZARRE. I cannot imagine what it will be like. Me? Married? What?!?

i could sleep for a week. and one day, i will.

i am very sleepy. parents’ evening tomorrow after school. not quite sure how i’m going to manage that one.

sleep time.

Work now, zap later.

I’m not working well. So I thought I’d blog.

I have to write a literature review, and then loads of other stuff, for my next assignment, which is due in TOO SOON. Far too soon.

Then this afternoon, Future-Wife and I are going zapping in Debenhams. Should be fun!

When I wake up

7 things I’ve learnt about teaching so far this year:

1) Do NOT let kids talk over you. This is probably the most important of all.

2) Talk/teach confidently, even if you do not feel confident, or haven’t a clue what you are talking about. A lot of the time, teaching is an act.

3) Thoroughly think lessons through before teaching them. I still haven’t been doing this properly, and often pay the price.

4) Give out warnings/negative comments with confidence and sternness, letting the kids know that their behaviour is unacceptable and you will not stand for it.

5) Praise kids abundantly. Make them want to behave for you. This really works, but feels so unnatural a lot of the time. Praise them for even the smallest thing they do.

6) Be totally explicit in what you want kids to achieve in your lesson. Even if it seems obvious to you, children may not find it so obvious. Don’t be scared of repeating yourself – make sure they know EXACTLY what it is you want them to do.

7) Speak enthusiastically as well as confidently. Your enthusiasm will rub off onto the pupils.
